The communities of Apollo Bay, Skenes Creek and Marengo will be able to have their say on the Community Infrastructure Plan (CIP), which will guide the future development of their townships, after both Council and the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority (GORCAPA) endorsed the draft Plan, with written submissions closing on Friday 22 July 2022.

A partnership document between the two organisations, the CIP outlines a long-term vision with strategic principles and concept plans for key infrastructure within those townships over the next 20-30 years.

“The nature of coastal towns are changing from climate change, coastal erosion, governance arrangements, population growth, tourism and visitor challenges creating changing community needs,” said Mayor Hanson. “This places stress on existing infrastructure and now is the time for communities to have their say about infrastructure that will be able to meet existing and future needs.”

This plan represents a great opportunity for us and the council to work with the Apollo Bay, Skenes Creek and Marengo communities to shape the future of these towns,” said Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority CEO Jodie Sizer. “We thank the community for their involvement to date and look forward to hearing their feedback as we move forward with the plan.”

The draft CIP includes a District Plan outlining primary linkages between town activity nodes and destinations, such as recreational trails, walking and cycling connections, as well as Foreshore Masterplans, Streetscape Plans, Design Guidelines for the Apollo Bay Streetscape.

For this project, community infrastructure includes public spaces and facilities (managed by Council and the Great Ocean Road Authority) that support the social and economic health and wellbeing of Apollo Bay, Skenes Creek and Marengo. It does not plan for community infrastructure provided by other agencies, such as healthcare, education and emergency services.

The CIP can be viewed online or a hard copy at the Apollo Bay Visitor Information Centre, Apollo Bay Library or Marrar Woorn Neighbourhood House.
