Colac Otway Shire Council's Environment unit has developed a Garden for Wildlife booklet to help inform gardeners in our communities on how to enhance habitat for native fauna. The booklet is packed with locally focused information, and provides an accessible way to understand the unique landscapes and species across this beautiful region. It features sections on garden design, planting, maintenance, sustainable products, as well as incorporating a guide to beautiful, local and available plants that support the wellbeing of wildlife.
An electronic copy of the booklet is available here: Garden for Wildlife Booklet(PDF, 9MB)
Hardcopy versions of the booklet are available from Colac Otway Shire Council's Colac and Apollo Bay offices, or email our Environment Team if you would like a copy sent to you.
Please see the reference list of nurseries in our region, where species outlined in the plant guide component of the booklet can be obtained: List of Nurseries in Our Region(PDF, 58KB)
An online video of the launch event - celebrated on 30/07/2021 - is available for viewing below. As well as providing an overview of this project and the content of the booklet, there is also a keynote presentation by Michele and Drew Shugg, providing guiding principles on habitat gardening design and process.
