Colac Bike Park Project
Project Summary
In response to the identified need for a bike park to be developed in the township of Colac/Elliminyt, Council appointed bike facility experts The Trail Collective to undertake community engagement and consultation to confirm the requirements for a bike park, determine the most appropriate site and develop concept design drawings.
The Trail Collective is a family and rider owned and operated company which brings together the experience and skills of professional, like-minded individuals to create trails, bike parks and pump tracks for a variety of wheeled and bike disciplines.
Community Engagement
Council engaged with the community and particularly young people over multiple stages to inform the design of a bike park in Colac. The pre-design consultation included an onsite session on 24 February 2025, with a follow up online survey which received a strong number of responses, with community members providing Council and The Trail Collective with a clear understanding of their preferences for elements for inclusion in the bike park.
Following this initial engagement, a 3D concept design package was developed to support further consultation. The community engagement on the 3D concept design included an onsite drop-in session on 14 June 2025 and an online survey. The information obtained informed the final designs by providing finer detail on the community’s preferences and desires for the bike park.
The Designs
The final designs for the bike park include a pump track and jumps section, catering to a range of skill levels, located on the grassed area adjacent to the playground and tennis courts at the Elliminyt Recreation Reserve.

Funding the Project
The site investigations and analysis completed in designing the bike park, the final bike park schematic design package and the cost estimates for construction developed by The Trail Collective provide Council with the necessary documentation to apply for grants as they become available.
The estimated construction cost of the bike park is approximately $750,000. Colac Connected Communities has communicated with Council a desire to support a project that has a lasting benefit for the community and as such has stated that they would like to provide a contribution of $80,000 towards the construction of the bike park.
As the construction of the bike park is reliant on obtaining additional funds, Council will apply for relevant funding opportunities as they become available. Once funding is obtained, Council looks forward to the construction of the bike park and the benefits it will provide to the community.
