Mickey-Eamanuel-at-the-Colac-library.jpg The Colac Otway Shire has two libraries operating in the region - one in Colac and the other in Apollo Bay. These libraries fall under the banner of the Corangamite Regional Library Corporation (CRLC) http://www.crlc.vic.gov.au, which manages 11 libraries in south-west Victoria on behalf of local councils.

 

 

 

 Colac Community Library and Learning Centre

The Colac Community Library and Learning Centre is a modern, state-of-the art facility built in 2010 for the Colac district community. The centre accommodates the general community, Colac Secondary College students and other learning groups including TAFE and U3A students.

Colac Community Library and Learning Centre users have access to the following facilities, resources and programs.

Internet, computers and printing

The library has six PCs available, each with access to Internet and Microsoft Word, but bookings are required. A computing suite is available for group bookings out of school hours. Internet access is for up to two hours per day, while WiFi is available to members with WiFi compatibility, so check the CRLC website for more information about WiFi access.

Printing is available at a cost within the library, while mobile printing is also available. This means you can send your printing from any internet-enabled device to the library’s printer, and then visit the library to pay and collect your printing.

Learning resources

The library contains more than 50,000 items available for loan. Items include DVDs, newspapers, talking books, large print books and best sellers.

Meeting rooms

The library has five meeting rooms for groups and members of the public to book.

These sessions are designed for children and babies to interact with their parents and carers. Sessions aim to introduce words, language and music in a fun environment.  Find out more about these sessions and the times they operate by visiting the CRLC website.

Apollo Bay Library

The Apollo Bay library has a public computer with Internet access, access to online resources, talking books for children, e-books and a host of books to loan. The library also operates the Rhyme Time program for pre-school children at 10am each Wednesday during school term.

Other facilities and resources also available include:

  • bulk loans to institutions
  • local and family history resources
  • ·newspapers
  • self-service photocopying (black & white and colour)

  

Outreach Library Service

The library outreach van provides a mobile library service to people to small rural communities where there is no physical branch, people unable to visit a library due to frailty, disability or ill health. The van services Colac and other rural locations within the Shire, including Beeac, Beech Forest, Birregurra, Coragulac, Cressy, Forrest, Gellibrand and Lavers Hill. The van visits these towns fortnightly and carries a collection of more than 1200 items for loan, including fiction and non-fiction books, talking books, videos and DVDs, large print books and magazines.
