Call for Apollo Bay soft plastics recycling support

Recycling Week might be over but it’s vital everyone continues their great work separating waste across Colac Otway Shire.

Colac Otway Shire General Manager Infrastructure and Leisure Services Tony McGann said Council was calling for a community group to take on hosting a soft plastics recycling bin in Apollo Bay, reducing contaminants in recycling bins and waste going to landfill.

Mr McGann said a trial of a soft plastics recycling bin at Council’s Customer Service Centre in Apollo Bay had been a success, with less contaminants in kerbside recycling bins since the start of the trial.

He said Birregurra and Forrest community groups were already helping fight the war against waste by providing a community space for a purple soft plastics recycling bin and taking responsibility to regularly transfer its contents to Colac for collection.

“Ideally a community group in Apollo Bay would put their hand up to host a purple bin in the town that could be accessed at convenient times.

“The trial is due to finish at the end of the month so Council is keen to hear from a group that can help provide this important recycling service on the coast.”

Apollo Bay groups can contact Council’s Waste Management Officer on 52329400 for more information about the supporting the recycling initiative.
