Bluewater gym to be open around-the-clock from June 29
Bluewater members will be able to take advantage of the centre’s new 24/7 gym hours at no extra cost from the end of this month, when the around-the-clock access is officially launched.
At 7pm on Friday, June 29 the gym will switch to a 24/7 operation and remain open to members all day and night, 365 days a year.
Councillor Kate Hanson invited members of the community to come along to the launch and help celebrate the important milestone. She said new and existing members can now sign up for 24/7 access as of June 18.
“We’re really excited that the move to 24/7 will give even more flexibility for gym users to work out and improve their health and wellbeing when it suits them,” she said.
“This project is a great way for Colac Otway Shire to increase an already valuable service and maximise the benefit of a wonderful community asset, without increasing fees to users.
“As a Council we are committed to making it as easy and affordable as possible for people to maintain a healthy lifestyle – both from a physical and mental perspective.”
Cr Hanson said 24/7 members would have access to the gym and on-demand virtual fitness classes at any time that suited them - in addition to benefiting from the added availability of equipment outside peak times.
Although new and existing Bluewater members will not have to pay anything to access the gym 24/7, centre manager Lucy Vesey said they would be required to undertake a compulsory induction session.
“We’ve introduced a lot of measures to help ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment of the gym and we also need our 24/7 gym members to come and go without impacting on nearby residents,” she said.
“The induction session will cover the new access system, new panic buttons on the gym floor and virtual room for emergency assistance, personal duress alarms, use of the on demand virtual classes and a host of other important information we need to pass on.
“It will only take 15 minutes, but it is compulsory for everyone who wants 24/7 access.
“We’ll be running sessions at a variety of times every day in the week leading up to the launch and people can call us, or drop in, to book for one of those sessions so they are ready for opening day on June 29.”
