Lake Colac Foreshore Beach Reclamation Project

Colac Otway Shire Council’s Lake Colac Foreshore Beach Reclamation project is scheduled for completion next month in time for summer.

Colac Otway Mayor Joe McCracken said the beach reclamation works were scheduled to be completed by November.

Cr McCracken said Council still needed to spread and smooth about 35 to 490 cubic metres of sand, in addition to what has already been brought in, as well as clear material that was introduced to stabilise the ground for trucks.

“New park benches are already in place and you can already see a real difference along the foreshore but there is new lighting to be installed along the pathway and drinking fountains to go on the foreshore,” he said.

Cr McCracken said Council had removed reeds in front of the Colac Rowing Club, with building works underway at the clubroom which would include construction of a new deck and a fresh coat of paint.

“Council also has a permit application in place for the removal of reeds at the Colac Yacht Club ramp and jetty,” he said.

“Clearing the reeds at the water’s edge, cleaning up the foreshore and making a new sandy beach is creating an inviting area for boating and a host of other water activities.

“And importantly it responds to community feedback regarding the value people place on the lake foreshore, while also managing the lake environment appropriately.”
