Using this form you can apply to fly an alternative flag of significance on the Community Flagpole

Prior to completing an application form, we suggest you also refer to Council's existing Flag Schedule and Policy.

Requirements

  • Applications should be received a minimum of 45 calendar days prior to the proposed date/s to allow time for any necessary approvals.
  • The flag must be provided to Council a week prior to the date/s it is to be flown.
  • The appropriate dimensions are 1800mm x 900mm
  • The flag must be in appropriate condition for flying (i.e. not torn or faded).

Important Information

  • In accordance with the Colac Otway Shire Council’s Flag Policy Protocol, Council will consider flying flags of significance on the Community Flagpole, other than those named in the Policy, upon application.
  • Council’s annual flag schedule will take precedence over any requests to fly other flags.
  • Alternative flags shall not be flown any longer than a maximum of seven (7) days.

National Reconciliation Week

27 May – 3 June

In recognition of 27 May as the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum which successfully removed from the Constitution clauses that discriminated against Indigenous Australians and 3 June as the anniversary of the High Court decision in the Eddie Mabo land rights case of 1992.

During this week, the Australian National Flag, Aboriginal Flag and Torres Strait Islander Flag shall fly from Council’s Ceremonial Flag Poles. Requests to fly flags other than those associated with National Reconciliation Week shall not be considered.

NAIDOC Week is held annually to celebrate and promote a greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and culture.
