On 8 August 2014, Film Victoria wrote to public agencies to advise that the Filming Approval Act 2014 had been passed by Victorian Parliament.

Victorian Film Friendly Guidelines are now an official publication of the Victorian Government, as published in the Victorian Government Gazette.

The Filming Approval Act 2014 implements a new framework of eight 'film friendly principles' which will streamline approval processes for filming on public land managed by local councils and government agencies.  Public agencies in Victoria are required to abide by these principles from 1 March 2015.

The screen industry provides economic, creative and cultural opportunities to the state of Victoria, enriching the whole community. The role of local councils and public agencies in granting film permits helps to promote Victoria as a key destination.
