Council is planning to undertake asphalt footpath rehabilitation works at Memorial Square to enhance safety and accessibility for park users.
Project Overview
This project involves resurfacing the existing asphalt footpath at the Memorial Square, Colac. The current footpath footprint will remain unchanged. The extent of proposed works is indicated in grey - please see image on this page.
Scope of Works
- Vertical realignment of the bluestone edging at selected areas to address tripping hazards.
- Asphalt Overlay of existing asphalt footpath.
No major excavation is planned, and all works will follow the existing footpath layout.
Project Timeline
- Expected commencement of works: 7 May 2026
- Expected completion: mid-June 2026

Key Impacts to the Community
Bluestone edging realignment will commence on 7 May. This stage of the project work requires localised fencing and is expected to have minimal impact on users of Memorial Square.
Works expected to have the most impact on Memorial Square users is scheduled between 1 and 5 June 2026.
- 1 - 3 June: Temporary closure of transition areas.
- 4 - 5 June: For user safety, a temporary closure of most of Memorial Square will be in place to allow for asphalt overlay works however, the playground, access to the War Memorial and seating areas is planned to remain open. Access will be subject to site conditions and safety requirements. Access to the Memorial Square Playground will be via limited entry points (via the concrete path near the Memorial Square toilets).
