Walk the Waterway
Join the journey to restore Barongarook Creek.
Colac Otway Shire Council, together with our GreenLinks project partners, Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation and Central Otway Landcare Network, invite you to join us for a walk and talk along Barongarook Creek.
This is a unique opportunity to learn about the history and management of Barongarook Creek, hear from local caretakers about the ecology of the waterway, and explore how you can play a role in its future.
This is the first of many community engagement activities as part of the State Government funded GreenLinks project, a two-year initiative focused on restoring Barongarook Creek between Murray Street and Forrest Street.
What the project will achieve:
- Removal of invasive weeds like Willow, Poplar, and Ash trees.
- Improving waterway health and water quality.
- Planting 11,000 indigenous plants, sourced from local nurseries.
- Enhancing biodiversity along the Barongarook Creek corridor.
- Improving public spaces for everyone to enjoy.
- Multiple community and school engagement days throughout the project.
We want the community to be part of this journey—whether it’s joining events, volunteering, or simply learning more about the creek. This is going to be a transformative project for our community.
Without the support of the Victorian Government, this project would not have been possible. The project is supported by the Victorian Government through the GreenLinks program, alongside our valued project partners. We are deeply thankful for their commitment to restoring and protecting Barongarook Creek.
