Barongarook Creek flows for approximately 13 kilometres from near the Colac-Forrest Road north of Yeodene and into Lake Colac at its southern shore. Within the Colac township, the creek runs through Sculpture Park and Hugh Murray Reserve, past the Lake Colac Caravan Park and into Lake Colac. Barongarook is a Gulidjan word meaning ‘running water’. Fishing is popular along the creek, with commonly caught species including carp, red fin and eel.
A walking track runs along the creek from Lake Colac to Murray Street.
