MEDIA RELEASE - 2 December 2025

Join the Summer Buzz – Be a part of Colac’s Summer Food Truck Trial

Colac Otway Shire Council is inviting mobile food vendors with distinctive and exciting menus to be a part of its Summer Food Truck Trial, an initiative designed to activate some of Colac’s most popular public spaces.

Manager Economy and Creative Industries Heidi Taylor said the program aims to introduce fresh ideas and create a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere that complements existing hospitality businesses while encouraging people to make the most of Colac’s beautiful outdoor areas.

“Memorial Square and Lake Colac are two of our key assets, and this trial is about bringing them to life over the warmer months,” Ms Taylor said.

“Friday and Saturday evenings at Memorial Square, and weekends by Lake Colac, are perfect opportunities to enjoy great food while supporting our night-time economy and welcoming visitors –alongside the fantastic businesses we already have.

“We want these spaces to feel even more inviting – ideal for rolling out a picnic rug, sharing a relaxed catch-up, taking a stroll by the lake, or simply soaking up the summer atmosphere.

“Council is inviting applications from food trucks and catering vans to help diversify Colac’s food scene.

“Think vibrant street food, global flavours and creative dishes that encourage people to linger and enjoy the atmosphere,” Ms Taylor said.

Approved locations and hours of operation for the trial include:

- Lake Colac Foreshore, Saturday and Sunday, 11am – 7pm;

- Memorial Square, Dennis Street, Colac- Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 4pm – 9pm.

Council hopes to attract a range of food trucks that will trade across the season, with one truck operating at each site per day. This means visitors can enjoy different options over the weekends while keeping the experience relaxed, well-managed, and supportive of existing businesses.

Council is also keen to hear what the community thinks throughout the trial. Feedback can be sent to inq@colacotway.vic.gov.au at any time during the program.

Ms Taylor said the initiative is about activating public spaces and boosting Colac’s visitor appeal.

“We’re looking for street food heroes, global flavours, and creative concepts – if this sounds like you, please contact Council with your application,” Ms Taylor said.

Applications are now open. For details on how to apply and compliance information, see information listed above on this page.
