Geelong Regional Libraries has opened a new self-service library kiosk in Birregurra to provide increased access for the local community to discover, borrow and return library items.

Located at the Birregurra Community Health Centre, the kiosk is a secure way for library members to collect their reservations and browse available books and other items at their convenience between 8.30am-5:00pm, Monday – Friday.

Library members can reserve books and other library items via Geelong Regional Libraries’ online catalogue, which are delivered to the centre and loaded into the kiosk ready for customers to collect at a time that suits them. Customers can also join using the library app and browse a selection of titles that are available to immediately borrow from the kiosk.

Library staff will continue fortnightly visits to Birregurra to provide assistance, restock the kiosk, deliver programs and ensure the library experience remains welcoming and engaging.

“This kiosk is a gamechanger for our Birregurra community,” said David Semmens, Acting CEO of Geelong Regional Libraries. “You now have greater access to library resources from the kiosk during weekdays, on top of in-person support and services from our library team.

“It makes borrowing more convenient and gives our staff more time to provide programs and support to Birregurra members.”

Councillor Mick McCrickard of Colac Otway Shire Council said, “This kiosk strengthens our community’s connection to learning, creativity and each other. It means Birregurra residents can enjoy easier, more flexible access to library services, while still benefiting from the personal support of visiting library staff. We’re proud to help bring this service to life and to see it become part of everyday community life in Birregurra.”

The Birregurra Library Kiosk is part of a broader initiative to improve library access in rural and regional communities. This project is proudly supported by the State Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, delivered in partnership with Colac Area Health and Colac Otway Shire.
