Colac Otway Shire Council wishes to inform the public that it is continuing an intensive fox management program to preserve birdlife at Lake Colac Bird Reserve.

Recent rainfall has significantly raised water levels across the bird reserve, reshaping the landscape, reducing the availability of natural food sources for foxes, and offering some protection to birdlife. These environmental changes are expected to influence fox movements to our advantage, increasing the likelihood of success.

A contractor has been engaged to address the fox issue at the Lake Colac Bird Reserve.

This important work will commence on Friday, 25 of July 2025 and is expected to continue until Monday, 1 of September 2025.

During this period, we kindly ask all visitors to:

  • Obey all signage and fencing in the area.
  • Keep all animals on leads at all times.
  • Be aware that sections of the reserve may be closed periodically during works for safety reasons.

These measures are crucial to ensure the safety of both the community, pets, and the wildlife in the reserve. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to protect our local environment and birdlife.
