Draft Asset Management Policy Open for Community Feedback
Published on 08 May 2026
Council is inviting community feedback on its Draft Asset Management Policy which outlines how Council looks after important community assets such as roads, facilities and infrastructure.
The policy sets the principles that guide how Council manages the assets in it care to enable effective, relevant and sustainable delivery of services.
The Draft Policy has been reviewed and updated with mostly minor changes from the current version and continues to provide strong guidance for asset management.
However, some updates have been made to strengthen Council’s focus on sustainability.
“With this Draft Policy, Council has included the need to consider climate change impacts when renewing, upgrading or acquiring new assets,” General Manager Infrastructure and Environment Doug McNeill said.
“The policy also encourages the use of sustainable materials in construction.
“Council is seeing the effects of climate change more often, it’s important we plan for those impacts in our investment in infrastructure.”
The Asset Management Policy works alongside Council’s Asset Plan, adopted in 2025.
While the policy sets the overall direction and decision‑making framework, the Asset Plan turns those principles into a practical 10‑year program for maintaining, renewing and improving Council’s assets.
“Together the Policy and Plan help ensure Council is making informed, balanced decisions for the community,” Mr McNeill said.
Council encourages community members to review the draft policy and share their feedback to help inform the final version.
The Draft Asset Management Policy is able to be viewed on Council’s website or in-person at Council’s Customer Service Centres in Colac and Apollo Bay.
