Distribution of rates notices begins

Colac Otway Shire ratepayers will receive their 2026-2027 rates notices via email or post over the next week.

The average rate will increase by 2.75 per cent this year, in line with Victoria’s rate cap.

Ratepayers can pay their rates online, by mail, by phone, in-person at Council’s customer service centres, or through Australia Post.

Payments can be in a single lump sum, or via four quarterly instalments. The first instalment is due by 30 September, while those paying in one lump sum will need to pay by 15 February 2027.

Flexible payment plans are also available. People experiencing financial hardship can apply to Council for rates assistance and details are contained within the rates notice.

Revenue from rates funds vital infrastructure such as roads, sports grounds, public toilets and other facilities, as well as services like children’s health, libraries, school crossings, events and festivals and fire prevention.

“Your rates help us maintain critical infrastructure and deliver a diverse range of community services from roads and footpaths to children’s health services and libraries,” Council CEO Andrew Tenni said.

“Please take the time to read your rates notice and the payment options.

“People who are facing financial hardship might be eligible for flexible payment plans and other support with their rates. Please see our website for details or call us on 5232 9400,” he said.

The State Government’s Emergency Services Volunteer Fund levy is included on the Council rates notice.

Council rates and the levy are determined by the valuation of a property. The Valuer-General Victoria is responsible for annual property valuations in Victoria.
