Community members can share their thoughts on the future of Meredith Park and whether it should remain a camping reserve.

Colac Otway Shire Council is reviewing the future uses of the reserve on the northern bank of Lake Colac, which currently offers free lakeside camping.

The community and campers can comment on two options for the site.

Option one is to continue to allow overnight camping, with upgrades to improve amenity and safety.

Option two is to provide the reserve for day uses only, without overnight camping.

Public input will inform Council as it reviews how to best manage the reserve into the future.

Council spends about $140,000 a year maintaining Meredith Park, which includes looking after vegetation, toilets, waste, inspections, and fixing and replacing amenities.

Council does not currently charge a fee for people to camp at the reserve but could consider a small fee in the future.

General Manager Community and Economy Ian Seuren encouraged people to have their say on Meredith Park’s future.

"Campers and day visitors love Meredith Park for its lakeside setting and peaceful atmosphere,” Mr Seuren said.

“We want it to continue being a welcoming space, and any future plans will aim to keep it a safe, tidy and friendly place.”

People can share their thoughts online at Meredith Park Community Consultation - Colac Otway Shire or submit feedback in writing via email to inq@colacotway.vic.gov.au or by post to PO Box 283, Colac 3250.

Submissions close at 5pm on Friday 1 August 2025.
