Colac Otway Shire Council is getting into the festive spirit with installation of the Christmas tree in Colac’s Memorial Square about to get underway.

Mayor Chris Potter will be ‘flicking the switch’ on the Christmas lights on the 7-metre high tree this Friday, 18 November at 6.30pm. The tree will light up the square each night in the lead up to Christmas.

“It will be great to have the Christmas tree shining brightly in Memorial Square again this year for all to enjoy,” Cr Potter said.

“Turning on the lights feels like we’re marking the beginning of the festive season, which I’m sure many in our Colac Otway community are looking forward to.

“I hope the tree and decorations will bring much joy to our community and visitors to Colac Otway.

“We hope that people take the opportunity to meet in the Square and enjoy the tree, bring along a picnic or stop at the nearby shops and cafes, and gather to enjoy company of family and friends.

“Small towns though Colac Otway also have great festive celebrations this time of year, so keep a look out for what’s happening around the region too.”

Cr Potter reminded residents to shop locally and support the region’s business community.

“We have a great range of local traders in all towns in Colac Otway – where you do your Christmas shopping can make a big difference, so please choose to shop local.

“I’m very proud of how our Colac Otway community support one another and shopping local is a great way to contribute your support.

“This time of year can also be difficult for some, so it’s a timely reminder to be kind to ourselves, and each other,” Cr Potter said.
