Carlisle-Colac Road, temporary bridge installation and road closure

Road closures

Council has received advice from the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) of the upcoming installation of a temporary bridge structure on Carlisle-Colac Road, north of Carlisle River, due to a damaged culvert.

Inspections have shown that the culvert on Carlisle-Colac Road, over Boggy Creek, has deteriorated and temporary traffic changes, including a lane closure and speed reduction have been in place.

To ensure Carlisle-Colac Road remains safe, open and accessible for vehicles, and reduce the impact on local communities DTP is installing a temporary bridge structure over the damaged culvert.

Temporary bridge installation and road closure

Works to install the temporary bridge structure will start on Monday 16 June and take approximately five days to complete, with the possibility of some weekend work.

There will be significant changes in traffic conditions while installation works are underway.

To allow for the safe and efficient installation of the temporary bridge, Carlisle-Colac Road will be closed at Boggy Creek from Monday 16 June to Sunday 22 June.

Detours will be in place and drivers are encouraged to plan their journeys to reduce increased travel times. Detour maps are listed on this webpage.

Temporary bridge structure

Once the temporary bridge structure has been installed, there will be changed traffic conditions.

The temporary structure will be a single lane, with temporary traffic signals on site to guide traffic through the area, one lane at a time. A reduced speed of 40km/h will also be in place.

There will also be restrictions on heavy vehicles travelling in the area. The temporary structure will have a load limit of 65 tonnes and will not be accessible for vehicles more than 3.4 metres.

Vehicles over 65 tonnes or with a width of 3.4 metres or more are advised they should refer to the National Network Maps for an accessible route.

All road users should take extra care when travelling along this section of Carlisle-Colac Road, observe traffic management signs and drive to the posted speed limit.
