Australia Day 2026 to take off at Cressy Aerodrome
Published on 23 September 2025
Cressy Aerodrome will host Colac Otway Shire’s 2026 Australia Day celebrations, in a day full of family fun, community connection and local pride.
Councillors voted at their September meeting to accept the Aerodrome operator’s proposal to host the community-led celebration that will also include the Shire’s annual community awards.
The decision follows an expression of interest process inviting community organisations to host the official celebration on Australia Day, 2026.
The Aerodrome venue has hosted its own Australia Day activities for the past three years, growing in popularity, and Council’s official celebrations will complement the existing community event.
Cressy Aerodrome sets the stage for a truly memorable 2026 Australia Day celebration, shining a spotlight on a hidden gem of the Shire and welcoming visitors from across the region. This event promises a unique experience for the whole family - combining the excitement of vintage aircraft displays with live entertainment, interactive activities, and a vibrant community atmosphere. It’s an invitation to discover a special part of Colac Otway, connect with local people, and enjoy a day that’s inclusive, lively, and full of local pride.
The Cressy Aerodrome event will feature:
• Citizenship Ceremony and Council’s Community Achievement Awards
• Vintage aircraft displays, including the crowd-favourite Tiger Moth
• Local community group showcases
• Family-friendly fun with jumping castles, live music and more
Mayor Jason Schram said the community could look forward to a fantastic celebration on Australia Day.
“Australia Day is an opportunity for reflection, community connection, and celebrating the values we share, and I’m proud to see the Cressy community leading the way with an exciting event at the Aerodrome,” Cr Schram said.
“We recognise that Australia Day holds different meanings for different people, and Council is committed to working with event organisers to support inclusive, community-led events that bring people together in a welcoming and respectful way.”
“This is a great opportunity for the north of our shire. It showcases the Aerodrome, and brings people together,” he said.
“Council is proud to support an event that has become a highlight for locals.”
Council will provide financial support for the official parts of the day.
Council will open the expression of interest process again to towns and community groups for the 2027 Australia Day event.
