Lake Oval (Colac Cricket Ground) – Proposed sports lighting upgrade

No longer on display. Expired on 30 November 2023, 05:00 PM

Council is seeking community feedback on a proposal to upgrade the sports lighting at Lake Oval. This project was identified as a priority during the development of the 2023 Colac City Reserves Planning Project, which included a master plan for Lake Oval.

Significant consultation including a community and local resident survey was undertaken during 2022 to inform the Planning Project.

Subject to receiving Council support via a resolution at the November 22, 2023 meeting, the upgrade will enable the Colac and District Football Umpires to train under safe and compliant lighting. It will also enable other sporting clubs to access an alternate venue for training during the winter months.

The proposal includes the removal of the existing lighting poles, and installation of new sports lighting that is designed and constructed to meet the Australian Standard (AS2460) for football purposes and the Australian Standard (AS4282) for control of obtrusive effects of outdoor lighting, meaning surrounding residents should experience minimal lighting ‘spill’ from the new lights, because they are designed to be focussed on the sports field surface. These types of lights have recently been successfully installed at local ovals including Colac’s Central Reserve, Western Oval and Elliminyt Recreation Reserve.
