Pay your rates

 You can pay your Rates with one of the following methods (you can find details of these on your rates notice) 

Colac Otway Shire

  • Pay Online - Please make sure you have your rates notice available when using our online payment method
  • Mail - Detach payment slip and mail with cheque or money order made payable to Colac Otway Shire.  Retain the top portion for your records as no receipt will be issued.
  • Phone - Call our Customer Service Centre on 03 5232 9400
  • In Person - Visit one of our Customer Service Centres in Colac or Apollo Bay


  • Make a payment through your financial institution using their app, website or visit your local branch - the Biller Code and your Reference Number is located on the front of you Rates Notice.

Australia Post

  • Billpay - the Biller Code and your Reference Number is located on the front of your rates notice 
  • Phone - call 13 18 16 to pay your rates over the phone.
  • In Person - Visit your local Australia Post agency   

Payment Plan

Flexible payment plans can be made to assist with paying your rates.  You can set up regular payments through BPay or via Direct Debit (form below).  Please complete the Payment Plan form to request this option.

When are rates due?

Rates Notices are usually issued to ratepayers in July each year.  

Lump Sum Payment

  • Full payment due 15 February

No reminder notice will be sent so please take action to schedule this payment

Quarterly Instalments

  • 1st Instalment due 30 September
  • 2nd Instalment due 30 November
  • 3rd Instalment due 28 February
  • 4th Instalment due 31 May 

Activate this option by paying  the 1st Quarterly amount shown on your Annual Rates Notice by 30 September.  Once activated, notices will be sent for remaining Instalments.

  • Full payment due 31 May
