Lucky Stars and festive feel across Colac Otway

Lucky stars are waiting to be found in Colac and Apollo Bay shops from now until Christmas, with the launch of Colac Otway Shire’s Christmas campaign to promote festive shopping in the shire.

Colac Otway Shire Council will also provide decorations to businesses in ten communities across the shire, helping share season’s greetings to even our smallest towns.

Colac Otway Shire Mayor Jason Schram said the return of the Lucky Star Competition, with $50 to be won in Colac and Apollo Bay each week leading up to Christmas, was part of a joint initiative between Council and local businesses.

“Council has been working alongside the Apollo Bay Chamber of Commerce, Colac Chamber of Commerce and local business people in the lead-up to the Christmas shopping season to host the competition and decorate businesses across the shire,” Cr Schram said.

“Decorations include chair wraps, stickers for the footpath and banners for shop windows with a design developed by the Colac Herald and printed by CPS, all in consultation with an enthusiastic working group of local traders.

“There is no cost to traders and this year’s reusable decorations are just the start, with plans for banners and more in the future,” he said.

“There will be a consistent festive design and theme in Colac, Apollo Bay, Forrest, Gellibrand, Skenes Creek, Beeac, Barongarook, Cororooke, Lavers Hill and Pirron Yallock.

“Council and traders are working together to help spread some Christmas cheer across the shire and encourage people to enjoy their Christmas shopping.”

Cr Schram said the reintroduction of the Lucky Star Competition would also encourage families to enjoy their shopping experience, with a chance for kids to win $50 each week leading up to Christmas in Colac and Apollo Bay.

“There will be a Lucky Star hidden in a business in the two shopping centres; and locations change each week,” he said.

“Children who find a star can enter online or ask an adult to help them enter at www.surveymonkey.com/r/2018LuckyStar for their chance to win.

“Council would like to thank all the traders who have been involved in the Christmas decoration initiative and looks forward to start announcing winners of our Lucky Star winners next week.”
