Colac Otway Shire Council Chief Executive Peter Brown has advised Councillors of his intention to resign after three years in the position.

Mayor Cr Kate Hanson said Council had accepted Mr Brown’s resignation and offer to remain CEO until July, providing Colac Otway with time to find an appropriate person to lead the organisation into the future.

“I would like to thank Mr Brown for the experience and knowledge he has brought to Colac Otway Shire, which has been particularly valuable during the past 12 months.

“Under Mr Brown’s leadership, Colac Otway has continued to deliver Council services and major projects, advocate for funding, and manage a community-focused response and recovery to the COVID19 pandemic.

“Councillors will now work with the organisation to plan a comprehensive recruitment program for a new Chief Executive.

“I believe Colac Otway Shire is well-positioned to attract high-calibre candidates for this role,” Cr Hanson said.

“Colac Otway’s location, industries, business sector, diverse communities and opportunities for growth and development are significant, and I am confident we will have strong interest in the position.”

Mr Brown said he was proud of Colac Otway Shire Council’s achievements during his time as Chief Executive and he looked forward to the completion of projects and advocacy outcomes.

“I have enjoyed working with the Colac Otway Shire team, community leaders and residents I have met since I commenced the role in July 2018, and there have been many highlights and obvious challenges we have worked through together.

“I will be leaving with confidence that Council is well-placed to deliver almost $20-million worth of City Deal projects for our coastal communities, and other important programs and projects to support the shire’s recovery and growth,” he said.

“My wife and I intend to move closer to family after my role has been filled here at Colac Otway, and I thank everyone for their support following my decision to resign.”
