Barongarook Conservation Reserve

Barongarook Conservation Reserve

This 16 hectare property is protected by a Trust for Nature conservation covenant and contains vegetation listed as Endangered (EVC 128 Grassy Forest). The reserve also contains potential habitat for the Rufous Bristlebird Dasyornis broadbenti caryochrus (status: Near Threatened) and the Grey Goshawk Accipiter novaehollandiae novaehollandiae (status: Vulnerable).

Barongarook Conservation Reserve is a beautiful area for bushwalking and nature observation, and includes a section of the Old Beechy Rail Trail, which runs from Colac to Beech Forest.

Part of the property was used historically as a nightsoil site. This section has since undergone revegetation works to encourage natural regeneration.
