Calisthenics is a dynamic combination of gymnastics, dance, hand apparatus (clubs & rods) marching, simplified ballet, singing and acting.
Calisthenics is widely practiced in Australia and is a fun and healthy way to keep fit for children of all ages. It is a team based sport which promotes fun, fitness and friendships.
Participants learn routines choreographed to music and partake in stage performances. Pupils learn elements of dance, gymnastics, ballet, singing, acting and hand apparatus. Calisthenics develops confidence, coordination, team spirit, posture, deportment, grace and performance skills. Calisthenics also develops musical knowledge.
Teamwork is what it is all about. A team of at least 8 participants work as one in every way. The placement of all positions are executed in a manner that makes a team of many look like one person. Pupils learn the importance of timing and the importance of team-work. This is an important ‘life skill’ and attitude to develop in children.
There is no other sport like calisthenics where you can participate in gymnastics, dance, simplified ballet, singing, acting and much more.
Calisthenics is open to children 3 – 16 years and senior classes are held for 16 years and over. No experience is necessary and it is a great opportunity to get fit and increase your strength & flexibility in a fun and friendly environment.
