| The services delivered as part of Council’s Roads and Parks Maintenance Program are covered by 19 separate programs and the main service activities programs are: -
Sealed Roads Maintain all sealed local roads, carparks, and walk/bike path. Maintenance includes cyclic routine patrols and repair of major pavement failures. There are 660 kilometres of sealed roads.
Unsealed Roads Maintain all unsealed roads, carparks and fire access tracks by routine grading and implement the annual program for resheeting of gravel roads. There are 1,100 kilometres of unsealed roads.
Vegetation Control Carry out slashing of Council road reserves for maintenance and fire prevention purposes. Weed spraying in conjunction with the slashing program is included in this program.
Street Sweeping Carry out sweeping of all Council kerb and channel and pavements at nominated frequencies. There is 120 kilometres of kerb and channel within the Shire.
Sign/Linemarking Maintain all Councils statutory, regulatory, warning and tourism signs and all associated linemarking.
Drainage Maintain all open and underground drainage systems through cyclic maintenance and implement the annual program for major drainage work on open drains.
Bridges Provide cyclic routine maintenance for all bridges and major culverts within the Shire. Recommend and execute major repairs identified through annual bridge inspections. There are 130 bridges and major culverts within the Shire.
Footpaths and Kerb and Channel Maintain all footpath and kerb and channel within the Shire. Public risk is a primary consideration in this area and asset inspections identify any required repairs.
Reseals Implement the annual program for resealing of Council’s sealed roads with approximately 250,000 square metres being completed each year.
Parks Maintain all major and minor parks including mowing, shrubs, flower beds, trees and park furniture.
Sports Fields Provide cyclic maintenance to sports fields including mowing, fertilising and weed control. Maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems is included.
Streetscapes Carry out cyclic maintenance on all streetscape treatments such as roundabouts, carpark plantings, street planter boxes, etc. Included in this area is maintenance of lawns and garden beds at Council buildings and facilities.
Botanic Gardens Maintain grass, shrubs, garden beds, trees, paths and roadways within the botanic Gardens for maximum presentation to the public.
Trees Clear all trees in Colac to the required clearance from powerlines as per Power and Vemco requirements.
Cemeteries Carry out horticultural maintenance as required at nominated rural cemeteries.
Callouts / After hours Paging System Provide duty officer for 24 hour availability to respond to Councils After hours Emergency contact via a paging system.
Emergency Management Response Respond to requests for plant and labour from combating agencies (C.F.A , Police etc) in the event of an incident as per Council’s Emergency Management Manual. Manager Cosworks is the nominated Municipal Emergency Response Officer.
