Lake Colac Pathway  Printer Friendly

Many people would have noticed the new Lake Colac pathway.

The Shire is working to extend this shared recreation trail and provide linkages to the Botanic Gardens, residential areas, the central business district and the Beechy Rail Trail.

A Commercial Development Feasibility Study is currently underway to assess the potential for business investment in the Lake precinct.

This investment would support further infrastructure enhancements.

Community Planting Day - Lake Colac Pathway
Around seventy community members turned out for Colac Otway Shire’s community planting day at Lake Colac on July 29, 2007.

Families, friends and members of local service clubs planted throughout the morning adding to the work done by the 260 local school children on Friday afternoon.

In all, 7000 grasses, shrubs and flowers were planted along a 600m section of the Lake pathway over the two days.

The planting days were held as part of National Tree Day and aimed to build on work by the community at a clean up day earlier in the year.

Colac Otway Shire Economic Development and Grants Officer, Joel Kimber said many people who had participated in the clean up day also participated in the planting day.

“We really appreciate the efforts of everyone who participated - It’s great to see such enthusiasm for Lake Colac,” Mr Kimber said.

“The area already looks great, and will only improve once the plants grow over the next couple of months.”

Mr Kimber thanked sponsers Be Active Eat Well, Greening Australia, Colac Toyota, AMP, and the Colac Lions Club for helping to make the day such a success.

“Council would also like to say a big thankyou to Cosworks and participants in the Social Justice Program who did a great job laying hessian along the pathway in readiness for the planting day,” Mr Kimber said.
