Bach by Candlelight
Date: Saturday July 19, 2014
Time: 8pm
Tickets: Adult & Concession $30 / Students $20
Bookings: 5232 2077

Bach by Candlelight presents the first and third solo Cello Suites of JS Bach in a recital lit exclusively by a single candle placed at the foot of the cello.

After many years of regional touring with Melbourne Piano Trio, Chris Howlett devised this show as a uniquely intimate experience for the audience, which verges on the surreal. Sensory deprivation in visual terms meets sensory overload in terms of aural perfection.

A crucial element of the audience’s personal connection with the performance is the “insider’s track” between the suites. Howlett explores, with the audience, the inner workings of the music from both a technical, historical and performancepractice perspective.

Chris who performs on a Thomas Kennedy English Cello, made in 1820, is a graduate of the Australian National Academy of Music and has spent extended periods of study in Vienna with Howard Penny, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and in London with Richard Lester, Florestan Trio and London Haydn Quartet. As a chamber musician he holds one of the busiest schedules in Melbourne performing regularly more than 40 recitals per year around Australia and Europe.

Pete the Sheep
Date: Wednesday July 24, 2014
Time: 10am and 1pm
Duration: 50 minutes
Suitability: Ages 3 - 9
Tickets: $20
Bokings: 5232 2077

Pete the Sheep is a brand-new 50 minute musical - it’s quirky and quintessentially Australian.

Shaun is the new sheep shearer in Shagy Gully. Since shearing is such hard work, all the other shearers have sheep dogs to help them, but not Shaun. His partner is Pete, a sheep-sheep. The other shearers in the shed are not happy with Shaun and his sheep-sheep.

Following rejection by the shearers and their dogs, Shaun and Pete set up their own shearing salon in town where they are inundated with woolly clients who delight in Shaun’s styling prowess.

This hilarious musical comedy, imaginatively told by four performers playing shearers, dogs and sheep, explores the challenges and rewards of being an individual, and will be a lasting tribute to honouring your own spirit and strength, whilst working the flock!

From the award winning company that brought us The Bugalugs Bum Thief, Milli Jack and the Dancing Cat, and Emily Eyefinger.
