| Did you know that Council provides over 60 services and functions to the community apart from road maintenance and waste collection?
Our Aged Care and Disability Services unit provides: •26,000 meals are delivered through Meals on Wheels per year •Home care to 600 people and personal care to around 100 clients •Property maintenance Service •Funding to Otway Health and Community Services
Our Family Day Care and Maternal and Child Health units provide: •Organise Family day Care for over 220 children throughout Shire •Provide Maternal and Child Health Care services across the Shire
Our Health department provides: •Around 1,500 Immunisations for Children per year •Specialised vaccinations (eg: meningicoccal) as required •Over 15,000 food and Site Inspections/testing to ensure public health
Our Local Laws department provides: •School crossing supervision •Pick up of stray dogs and cats and the removal of stock from Council managed roads •Car parking enforcement and issue and enforcement of a range of permits •After Hours Emergency service
Our Works & Services department: •Maintains over 1,700kms of roads throughout Shire including guardrails and road signs •Slashes grasses on roadsides •Cleans drains and litter traps •24 hr a day clearing roads of debris from Council managed roads •Maintains Colac Botanic Gardens and Memorial Square •Operates and improves Apollo Bay Harbour
Our Town Planning department: •Processes over 500 applications a year •Ensures inappropriate land uses are not permitted in certain areas •Enforces breaches of Planning legislation
Our Building department: •Processes applications for building permits •Ensures buildings are built in accordance with legislation
Our Recreation, Arts and Culture department: •Operates COPACC and Bluewater Fitness Centre •Provides school holiday After School and Holiday programs for 5,000 children per year •Provides $150,000 financial assistance to various community/sporting groups per year •Provides advice to clubs to aide their management and development •Organises and runs community health and well being programs
Our Tourism Department: •Operates the Colac and Apollo Bay Visitor Centres •Contributes to the strategic promotion of the area as tourist destination
Our Economic Development Department: •Actively seeks and applies for grants for range of community uses •Works with training providers and key stakeholders to address employment and education needs •Facilitates the EdSkills Network which supports local businesses & organisations in accessing, sharing and raising the awareness of training and business related activities and opportunities •Provides information and assistance to community groups •Promotes the region as a great place to live, work and invest •Facilitates workshops and business seminars to encourage small business growth •Works with the business community to encourage and sustain economic growth and development
Our Environment Unit: •Facilitates improvement of environmental practices •Assists with the management of and improvements to a variety of natural resources through education days, workshops and on-ground programs •Manages weed control on council land and looks after various revegetation projects •Ensures planning permits adhere to environmental best practice
