| Local Laws Review | | Community comments called for on Local Laws review: Penalties for consuming alcohol in a public place are set to double from $100 to $200 under a review of Colac Otway Shire Council’s Local Laws. The increased penalty has the support of Victoria Police and will bring Colac Otway in line with other municipalities in Victoria. The community has six weeks to comment on proposed changes to the Local Laws, which also outlines changes to the number of animals that people can keep on a property without a permit. Other issues addressed in the Local Laws review include stock crossing permits, beekeeping, waste management, events management, and rules regarding unsightly premises. Mayor Lyn Russell said Local Laws existed to protect local amenity, infrastructure and way of life. Under proposed changes to animal regulations, land size would determine how many animals a person can keep without a permit. Animals affected by this law include dogs, cats, poultry, pigeons, sheep or goats, cattle and horses, pigs and reptiles. Full details here: Local Laws Review | |
