| Council has a responsibility to ensure that all food sold within the municipality is safe and prepared in an hygenic manner.
Environmental health surveyors and Council's food safety officer regularly visit places that sell food which includes shops, markets, stalls, charitable functions and festivals to ensure the correct preparation and safe sale of food.
It should be noted that food sold at markets is required to be prepared in registered kitchens.
Anyone who wishes to sell food must be registered with the council as a Food Premises, Food Vending Vehicle or Temporary Food Premises and are subject to the conditions of the Food Act 1984 and the Food Standards Legislation.
Council also has a responsibility to oversee the construction of new food premises prior to registration.
