| New Balnagowan owners make progress on repairs | | The new owners of Colac’s historic Balnagowan homestead have almost completed the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal’s list of repairs designed to protect the property.
Colac Otway Shire Council’s Sustainable Planning and Development General Manager Jack Green said the new owners had completed roof repairs, securely fenced the property, installed security lighting and an alarm, pumped water out of the cellar and boarded ground floor windows.
Mr Green said the new owners had also slashed long grass on the property.
“Council officers inspected Balnagowan yesterday and found that the work was progressing well,” he said.
“Some windows have not been boarded on the upper floor because they are going to be replaced.”
Mr Green said Council had an administrative hearing scheduled with VCAT on February 1, when it would report that the work was progressing to Council’s satisfaction.
“We will ask VCAT for a short extension to the interim enforcement order to enable the owner to complete repairs to the upper story windows.”
