Winter is whale season in Victoria!
During winter, whales make an annual migration off the Great Ocean Road coast on their way to Antarctica.
This page will provide regular updates on whales and their locations.
You can subscribe to this page to receive an update to your email every time a new whale sighting is posted.

July 26, 2011
2.57pm. A couple of Southern Right whales have been spotted just off Cape Otway - apparently very close to shore; we are unsure of the direction they are heading.

July 23, 2011
2:30pm. Two whales sighted close to the 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road.

July 17, 2011
1:30pm. Three whales sighted in the Bay in front of the service station heading south.

July 16, 2011
2pm. Two Southern Right Whales sighted approx. 2 Km SW of Cape Otway Lightstation. Doing a few backflips etc!

8:45am. Two whales sighted in Apollo Bay just off the Information Centre enjoying this sunny, winter morning.

Stephanie's at Onion Bay, near Wye River, has spotted a whale heading west this morning.

The Cape Otway Light Station has spotted two whales off Cape Otway.

July 5, 2010
Five humpback whales have been spotted off Cape Otway.

July 6, 2010
A Southern Right mother and baby are currently enjoying the water near Cape Otway light station. They appear to be in no hurry.

Two Southern Right Whales spotted off Point Impossible slowly heading towards Torquay at 3pm.

Two whales have been spotted at Petticoat Creek, 2.50pm.

Two whales have been spotted just near the breakwater in Apollo Bay, 4.24pm.

Two whales spotted this morning at Skenes Creek, near Tiger Lane.

July 25, 2010
Three whales about 3 kilometres west of Lorne and approximately 600 metres off shore, heading towards Lorne at 9.40am.

Midday. Whale frolicking of Separation Creek, 30 meters off shore.

July 29, 2010
Mother and calf 100metres off Cape Otway Lightstation heading East.

August 2, 2010
Whales galore off the southern coast, 1pm.

There are four pods of whales all heading towards Lorne!
Pod one is currently at Anglesea Surf Club
Pod two is at Fairhaven
Pod three is at Big Hill
Pod four is at north Lorne.

August 3, 2010
One southern right whale heading towards Apollo Bay from Wongarra Heights.

August 4, 2010
Small Southern Right Whale quickly heading from Wye River towards, Kennett River, 1.20pm.

A mother andcalf have been spotted off Skenes Creek, 2.30pm.

A couple of whales spotted this morning of the Marengo Headland, believed to be Southern Rights.

Three whales off Wye River this morning.
One is coming around Point Sturt heading towards, Separation Creek, doing flipper flapping and circle work.

Just letting you know that there are two whales, mother andcalf (believed to be Southern Rights) off Apollo Bay main beach – presently near Cawood St (9am). Quite close to shore and easily visible.

Approximately six whales near Wild Dog Beach putting on a fabulous show on this glorious day, 11:30am.

Five wWhales spotted out from Sea Farers which is roughly five kilometres from the Apollo Bay Visitor Information Centre.
