| Transport Connections Phase 3 | | Transport Connections Phase 3 is funded through the Victorian Government’s Transport Connections Program.
The aim of phase 3 is "To respond to the needs of people with limited access to transport and/or education, leisure, health, employment, fresh food and social opportunities and to demonstrate a more innovative approach to developing regional solutions."
The objectives of phase 3:
1. Develop innovative transport and non transport options to support access, excluding public transport responses. 2. Generate more efficient use of transport and community resources 3. Establish on-going local partnerships to deliver transport and accessibility outcomes. 4. Foster ongoing community participation and inclusion in decision making to improve social and economic outcomes.
A Strategic Co-ordination Group has been formed with representatives from Department of Planning and Community Development, Department of Transport, Barwon Network of Neighbourhood Houses, Otway Community College, Colac Community Hub Inc., Colanda, St Laurence, Colac Area Health, Otway Health and Community Services, Colac Secondary College and Colac Otway Shire.
Community members are invited to express their interest in joining or attending SCG meetings.
The Strategic Co-ordination Group adopted the words; Access, Connect, Belong to describe the objectives of Transport Connections Phase 3.
Key areas of activity will include:
Active Transport Promoting environmental sustainability; supporting forms of self-powered transport such as walking, cycling and skateboarding.
Community Information and Education Exploring options for reducing car usage, promoting opportunities to use different forms of transport and encouraging the community to access these options. Community Transport Using accessible vehicles to meet local transport needs not catered for by existing public transport. Outreach Models Utilising social enterprise models, supporting agencies and organisations to bring their goods and services to people.
Private Transport Supporting more effective use of private transport.
Virtual Access Using information technology to to support or improve access to resources and services that may not be easily accessible, to improve social connectivity for isolated residents.
