| Landscapes Near and Far – by Gavin Lang | | September 3 to October 11 Free!
Colac artist Gavin Lang explains his latest exhibition Landscapes Near and Far, on display at COPACC this month:
"All the greatest landscape painters have focused on the large disposition of light and dark, so that even before we approach these pictures we feel their dramatic significance, by looking more closely we find them full of observed facts. My aim was to capture the facts and details of our local areas and beyond.
I have been painting for over 22 years in acrylics, oil and have spent the last few years exploring watercolour. Landscapes have always been a big part of my works over the years through expressionism, surrealism and more so capturing the impact of the shadows moulding the landscape against the strong light source to create an atmosphere.
Although I have painted the figure in the landscape, portraits and still life, in Landscapes Near and Far my aim was to capture the atmosphere of places that most people have seen and travelled great distances to experience nature at its best. The series of works are based on places I have been with my family and looking for the composition that has the most interest. I also wanted to create works locally to show that you don’t have to travel too far to find freedom and beauty in nature."
