The Older Persons and Ability Support Services unit at Colac Otway Shire provides a comprehensive and integrated range of support services for frail and elderly people and people with disabilities to live independently in their own homes and to participate in their communities.

Council has implemented the TTY (telephone typewriter) systems at the Rae Street Customer Service office and the Colac Visitor Information Centre as well as Counter Hearing Loops and personal FM systems to assist the hearing impaired access information.

The new TTY numbers are: Colac Visitor Information Centre 03 52329 590 - Customer Services - 03 5232 9400
 
Barwon South West Mental Health Week
Barwon South West Mental Health Week will see a celebration of Wellbeing in Mind at the Colac Memorial Square on Sunday 19 October 2014 from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. Held in conjunction with the Colac Lions Club Market, there will be free entertainment and activities. The Mental Health Awards will be announced at 12:00 Noon.

The 2014 Barwon South West Mental Health Week Committee have introduced annual awards designed to recognise and celebrate the contribution of individuals and organizations working towards the improvement and promotion of mental health and wellbeing within the Barwon South West region. If you know of an individual and/or an organisation deserving of recognition for their contribution to the promotion of mental health and wellbeing, please complete the nomination form (see link below). Nominations are due by Friday 29 September (extended).

Celebrating Our Seniors Photographic Competition & Exhibition
Colac Otway Shire's Positive Ageing Ambassadors invite all community members to join in celebrating 2014 Seniors Week October 6 - 11 by contributing up to three photographs to an Exhibition that celebrates Positive Ageing in the Colac Otway Shire.

Your photograph may celebrate being active and involved, or an older person that you care for or someone that inspires you. it may be the beauty of ageing or the skills and knowledge of older people. We look forward to your participation.
