| Native vegetation on roadside reserves is very important as it is often the only remaining example of the plant communities that once existed in an area. Many rare or threatened species or communities are found only on roadsides. 25% of the plant species listed under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988 occur on roadsides.
The more important legislation that may trigger approval are the Federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC), the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988 and the provisions of Councils Planning Scheme.
Council regulates activities on roadsides to ensure that roadside vegetation is protected and managed to support both its function and biodiversity values. Councils Roadside Vegetation Management Plan guides how roadside vegetation is managed. Please note this Plan is currently under review. | |
