| COPACC in running for national theatre award | | Colac Otway Performing Arts and Cultural Centre is a finalist in a national award for the best theatre presenter in Australia.
COPACC has been named as one of three finalists from a field of 150.
The Australian Performing Arts Centres Association’s Drover Awards winners will be announced at a national conference in Port Macquarie in September.
COPACC is up against The Capitol performing arts centre in Bendigo and The Princess Theatre in Launceston.
APACA Executive Officer, Rick Heath said it was a highly-competitive process this year with more than 150 nominations being received from all over Australia for best presenter.
“This year’s nominees have made a great contribution to the cultural development of the communities they work in and are very deserving of the recognition the awards bring,” Mr Heath said.
“The Drover Award for best presenter recognises the achievements of an outstanding presenting organisation/performing arts centre and is awarded to the presenter who works with the producer to provide consistently outstanding production, marketing and management services.
“In addition, this presenter will have achieved exceptional success in audience development and community engagement.”
Colac Otway Shire Mayor and COPACC Trust member Brian Crook said the nomination was a credit to COPACC manager Karen Patterson and her dedicated team.
Cr Crook said the Colac Otway Shire community also deserved acknowledgement for the way they had embraced COPACC and the performing arts on offer.
“Colac is extremely fortunate to have a performing arts venue of this size and quality,” he said.
“It is fantastic to see COPACC being held up as one of the most outstanding centres in Australia and it speaks volumes about the fantastic team we have at COPACC, the quality programs they provide and the way our community supports COPACC.”
