Sheehans Road – Kennys Lane intersection improvements set to start

Colac Otway Shire Council has awarded a contract to upgrade the Sheehans Road and Kennys Lane intersection at Cororooke to improve safety for motorists.

Colac Otway Shire Mayor Jason Schram said a high volume of traffic used the intersection, with most of the traffic from the north west of Colac using Kennys Lane, Sheehans Road and Rossmoyne Road to get to Colac.

“Currently much of the traffic entering Sheehans Road-Rossmoyne Road from Kennys Lane enter the intersection without reducing speed to an acceptable level,” Cr Schram said.

“The intersection is also notorious for poor visibility when it’s foggy.

“Council’s Infrastructure and Leisure Services division completed a Road Safety Audit which recommended a range of treatments to regulate unsafe traffic movements.

“The project will include the construction on a traffic island, new line marking and new signs, along with the reconstruction of the pavement, construction of a kerb to channel the water runoff,” he said.

“There will also be guard rail installed as recommended by the RSA for an extra safety measure.”

Council awarded the tender to Bitu-mill (Civil) Pty Ltd.
