Colac Otway Shire Council welcomes State Government grant for Central Reserve

Colac Otway Shire Mayor Joe McCracken says the next stage of Council’s vision for Colac’s Central Reserve looks set to go ahead thanks to a $375,164 State Government grant announced yesterday.

Cr McCracken said Council’s success with its Community Sport Infrastructure Fund grant application was great news for netballers, footballers and the entire community, and he thanked Western Victoria MP Gayle Tierney and the government for investing money in the shire.

“Securing funding to help us provide new courts that our netballers deserve, along with competition lighting for both the courts and oval is really significant,” Cr McCracken said.

“The proposed upgrade will ensure the Colac Tigers’ home courts meet standards, which is a vital stage in the Central Reserve Masterplan.

“We want Central Reserve to be our premier sporting venue for the sporting community including our netballers, whether it’s Colac Tigers and other GFNL teams or Colac and district netballers and footballers playing finals,” he said.

“The project cost estimate is about $750,000 and Council has given in-principle support to provide matching funding, to be confirmed in next year’s budget process.”
